Phase one Laboratory handover

We’ve reached a key milestone in the mobilisation of the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) COVID-19 Lighthouse Laboratory Testing Service at Bracknell, with the first of five laboratory spaces delivered on time.

The new facilities are located on the top floor of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust’s (RBFT) Bracknell Healthspace. Engineers and Project Managers WSP, alongside main contractors Overbury, have been working with us around the clock for several weeks to create a Class-2 Laboratory with the requisite power, utilities and ventilation needed to support our efforts as part of the national pandemic response.

The laboratory is designed to operate twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We will be testing tens of thousands of COVID-19 samples each day. The samples will be collected from community test sites, care homes, and households across the South East of England.

It has been a significant and complex challenge to mobilise this activity, and it’s a testament to the hard work and determination of all involved that we remain on target to meet our commitments to the Department of Health and Social Care.

Recruitment for the new laboratory is ongoing and we are continuing to grow our team. If you would like to join us at the forefront of the national testing effort, please get in touch. We would be very pleased to hear from you.
